COMMON QUERIES
Answers to your questions
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO TAKE?
Contact me by phone or email for a free informal confidential 10-15 minute chat to discuss your requirements.
We can arrange a time to meet and think together about what it is you are seeking from psychotherapy.
There will be a focus on the process and how to best support you. It may take a few sessions to make sure we can work together. I will endeavour to refer you onwards if working together doesn't feel the right fit.
HOW MUCH OF THE WORK DO I HAVE TO DO?
Psychotherapy requires an active participation. The therapeutic relationship provides the space to facilitate change.
HOW DO YOU WORK?
My philosophy is first and foremost grounded in the interpersonal relationship between client and therapist. The past may be influencing present situations and experiences, therefore a safe and trusting space will be created from which to explore thoughts and feelings. I am influenced by Jungian thought where personal myth is of importance: integrating the shadow, as well as allowing for a space for the healing power of symbols to have expression. Images as well as dreams may be explored.
Art psychotherapy has its roots in a visual arts practice, and so combines this with a primarily psychoanalytic, psychodynamic mode and Jungian theories. I also include other approaches such as mentalisation-based treatment if required.
ARE THE SESSIONS CONFIDENTIAL?
Yes. I am a member of BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council).
I am registered with BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists) and follow their ethical guidelines. I am registered with HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council) who monitor and regulate the caring professions such as art psychotherapy.
HOW LONG SHOULD I CONTINUE WITH PSYCHOTHERAPY?
This really depends on your unique circumstances and needs. An open-ended approach in which there is space for your to explore new issues that may arise once the therapy has started may be the most helpful.
HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?
Individual sessions are 50 minutes. Sometime it can be helpful to meet a couple of times a week if things are feeling difficult; I work at a frequency of 1-2 times per week.
Group sessions are 75-90 minutes, plus time to set up and clear up the room.
FEES & QUESTIONS REGARDING FEES
Individual psychotherapy or art psychotherapy sessions £85.
Group art psychotherapy sessions - please enquire.
Sessions take place at the same time each week, this time will be held for you. I therefore charge for missed sessions, however will endeavour to find an alternate time during the same week if for some reason you are unable to attend, however this is not always possible.
There is no fee for sessions which I cancel due to a break.
PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION
I offer individual art psychotherapy supervision based on psychodynamic principles, with a strong commitment to unconscious and creative processes.
